Nickelodeon has recently announced that they have ordered 20 episodes of the comedy-adventure web series Welcome to the Wayne. The move marks the first time a Nick digital short-form series has been greenlit for TV broadcast. Nickelodeon will also launch the TV series with a companion app called ‘The Wayne,’ which is being developed concurrently with the show and will provide a more interactive experience for fans of the show, featuring multimedia content such as photos, videos, and even online games.
“We’re reinventing genres and formats for kids, and greenlighting this series for television signals how content on all screens is coming together as one for our audience, and how we continue to cultivate creative talent like Billy Lopez,” said Russell Hicks, President, Content Development and Production, Nickelodeon. “Welcome to the Wayne is a terrific example of how great stories and characters can move from one medium to another and bring the audience with them.”
Welcome to the Wayne, which originally debuted on the Nick App and Nick.com last year, focuses on the adventures of two ten year old boys who are exploring the unpredictable world of their New York City apartment building, The Wayne.
