Olmos Productions and Animex Team Up for El Americano: The Movie
Edward James Olmos’ Olmos Productions and Animex are teaming up on the upcoming 3D animated film El Americano: The Movie, which is the first animated co-production between the US and Mexico.
El Americano: The Movie follows the adventures of a young Mexican parrot named Cuco, whose epic quest to enlist the aid of an American crime-fighting TV celebrity to defend his family in Mexico from bullies led to him learning how to be a hero himself. The movie will be under the direction of Ricardo Arnaiz (of La Leyenda de La Nahuala and Nikte), and Mike Kunkel (of Disney’s Tarzan and Hercules). No cast members have been announced yet, but Edward James Almos (Battlestar Galactica) will not only exec produce, but will also lend his voice to one of the main characters.
“We’re delighted to be working with Edward James Olmos and his production company here in the US”, said Ricardo Arnaiz, award-winning director and founder of Animex in Puebla, Mexico. “It’s a story we have been working on for the last three years and we feel we have a really strong team in place to execute this film scheduled in 2013.”
