Overwatch Shorts Could Lead to Animated Feature

As part of the promotion campaign for their Arena FPS game Overwatch, Game developer Blizzard Entertainment releases online animated shorts, which were all received enthusiastically by fans. The shorts help flesh out the backstory behind the Overwatch game’s numerous unique characters, as well as the reasons why they fight. The positive response the shorts garnered seems to have convinced Blizzard of the potential for a full featured film.

In a recent interview with MCV UK, Blizzard’s head of Consumer Products Group Tim Kilpin admitted that they would like a film adaptation “very much.”

The potential for an Overwatch film does have a precedent, as the Activision Blizzard Studios is currently setting up a movie based on their M-rated Call of Duty FPS franchise.
