Pantone Introduces New Color Based on Minions

Pantone has recently launched a new shade of yellow that they claim to exude “hope, joy, and optimism.” The name of the shade? Minion Yellow. The color is based on Despicable Me’s extremely popular yellow blobs of cuteness. The color is especially calibrated to “heighten awareness and create clarity, lighting the way to the intelligence, originality and the resourcefulness of an open mind,” according to the Pantone Colour Institute.

While Pantone regularly partners with brands and franchises in order to launch tie-in branded shades, Minion Yellow marks the first time that they produced a color based on a summertime blockbuster: Universal Pictures’ spin-off film, Minions, which managed to score the record for second-highest opening of all time for an animated movie.
