Peppa Pig Scores New French Broadcast and Licensing Deals
Entertainment One has recently announced a slate of new broadcast and licensing deals in France for their popular preschool series Peppa Pig. The consumer products for Peppa Pig were launched in France last summer of 2014, via the debut of toys at retail, and now eOne is expanding their reach to the mass market retail sector. A new batch of licensed Peppa Pig merchandise will be making its way to nationwide retail chains such as Carrefour, as well as Toys’R’Us, La Grande Recre and Joué Club.
Peppa Pig’s licensing program in the region is handled by France TV Distribution, and the property currently boasts of over 35 licenses under its belt. Master toy partner Giochi Preziosi leads the toy category, supported by Diset for board games and Taldec for computer games. Publishing partner Hachette Jeunesse introduced a range of story, activity and coloring books in addition to stationery from early 2015. Cijep has signed for plush, accessories and furniture and partners are also signed across magazine, apparel and accessories, homewares, partyware, toiletries, confectionary and food. These licensees will be rolling out with full listings in 2016.
The TV show itself has a strong broadcast presence in the region via France 4 and France 5, both of which air multiple episodes back to back on a daily schedule. EOne and France TV Distribution are also working with UK stage show partner Fiery Angel in order to bring the hit live show adaptation Peppa Pig’s Big Splash to audiences in France. Production will be handled by Decibels productions, a subsidiary of Warner Music France.
“Initial sales of Peppa licensed merchandise have surpassed the expectations of retailers in France and with the added exposure of France 4 and France 5’s daily broadcasts and the upcoming live show, it’s clear that the time is right to bring the brand to the mass market.” Says Ami Dieckman, Head of International Licensing at eOne.
