No doubt spurred on by the success of various movie adaptations of iconic toylines, the classic toddler-oriented Playmobil toy brand is preparing to make its mark on the big screens via a new feature film adaptation. Rights for the movie has been secured by Paris-based ON Entertainment, with Wild Bunch and Pathe serving as co-developers and representatives for worldwide sales. Production will be handled by ON Ent’s Montreal, QC animation division.
According to ON Entertainment’s Dimitri Rassam, the Playmobil animated adaptation will be drawing on the same creative team as their previous project, The Little Prince. Bob Persichetti (head of story for Monsters vs. Aliens, Shrek 2, Puss in Boots) is leading development. Rassam, ON Ent co-founder Aton Soumache, Alexis Vonarb and Moritz Borman serve as producers; Axel von Maydell’s Morgen Studios is co-producer.
