POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World – 2 Movie Collection

Walt Disney has just released a 2-movie Blu-ray + DVD pack that collects the hit animated feature Pocahontas, and its not-as-well-received sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World in a single package.

Pocahontas is loosely based on the real life events that surround the establishment of the Jamestown colony in Virginia back in 1607. It follows the eponymous Powhatan princess who is deeply in touch with nature and the spirits of the world, who must contend with her beliefs being challenged as she meets the English settlers that arrive in her homeland in the pursuit of gold. She develops a bond with one of the young soldiers, John Smith; but as their relationship gets deeper, tensions between the English and the natives escalate and threaten to tear both of their worlds apart.

Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World picks up where the first movie left off, with Pocahontas getting the news that John Smith has perished on his way back to England, so she sets off on his own in order to try and prevent future war between the English and the Powhatan tribe. Upon her arrival, she finds John Rolfe, an English diplomat who undergoes a transformation from snob to husband. The problem is, it turns out that John Smith is alive and well, and has not forgotten Pocahontas yet.
