Popeye the Sailor Man returns to film

Iyam whut Iyam (translated: “I am what I am”), Sony is bringing Popeye back to the big screen. Avi Arad, the individual behind the original 3 Spider-Man movies, will be working with Sony to produce the 3D, CG animated feature. Sony Pictures ImageWorks will be handling the CG, with Sony Pictures Animation taking the official producer credit. It’s not yet known what the story will entail, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will feature Pop-eye’s main squeeze Olive Oyl, and his archenemy Bluto, as well as a few standard characters in the Popeye universe: Swee’Pea, Wimpy, and more, all created by E.C. Segar. The classic character turns 81 this year, originally making his first appearance in the Thimble Theater comic strip in 1929, later being purchased by King Features Syndicated.
