If you’re one of the many people who dislike Paul W.S. Anderson’s live-action Resident Evil movies, then the trailer for Resident Evil: Damnation shown at the San Diego Comic Con should be a breath of fresh air. Unlike the Milla Jovovich action vehicle, Resident Evil: Damnation’s story and plot elements does not deviate from the ones that were established by the games.
While the trailer provides enough screen time to establish the protagonists, the real star is still the Lickers, which look every bit as horrifying as you’d expect them to be – at least, to the furthest that CG can. The uncanny valley probably also works on vaguely humanoid creatures:
Resident Evil: Damnation is actually the follow up to 2008’s Resident Evil: Degeneration, and features a script from Shotaro Suga (of Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society). Damnation is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on October 27 and, as the trailer states, will be coming soon to Blu Ray and DVD in North America.
