Ron Howard to Direct New Animated Movie, Shrinking of Treehorn
According to a recent Variety report, director Ron Howard will lend his talents to an animated adaptation of Florence Parry’s 1971 children’s book, The Shrinking of Treehorn. It marks Howard’s first animated film, and the first in four animated projects that his Imagine Entertainment has set up with Australian studio Animal Logic. Paramount will handle relase of the film.
The Shrinking of Treehorn focuses on the adventures of a young man who magically gets shrunk after playing a board game. The adaptation will rely on visuals inspired by the original illustrations of artist Edward Gorey. Scripting duties is handled by Rob Lieber.
“I’ve long had this passionate point of view that Ron Howard should make a tentpole animated movie. That’s how this started,” said Zareh Nalbandian, Animal Logic’s CEO. “It was serendipitous that Imagine was sort of evolving and growing, and Animal Logic was more and more committed to the development and production of our own intellectual property. We have a shared vision of what that space can be.”
