Rooster Teeth Orders SpikeFace From It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Creators
SVOD outfit Rooster Teeth has recently ordered 8 episodes of the animated dark comedy series Spikeface from RCG, which is the production company of Rob MCElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton. The three actors are known for being the creators, executive producers, and stars of the commercial and critically successful comedy series, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
SpikeFace’s premise is as dark as it gets as far as animated shows are concerned. It is described as the story of the world’s great horror icon, Spikeface, who slaughters a couple at a roadside motel only to discover that the hapless victims have left behind a baby girl. Spikeface decides to adopt and raise the orphan as his own. The act does not go over well with his roommates, who are all as equally horrifying and murderous as Spikeface himself.
SpikeFace will be produced in-house by Rooster Teeth Animation and will premiere as a Rooster Teeth original series in 2019 via their own streaming service, RoosterTeeth.com, and on Xbox One, Apple TV, iOS, and Android through their app.
“So many of us at Rooster Teeth are huge fans of Rob and we can’t wait to help him and his team bring Spikeface to life,” Rooster Teeth co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Burnie Burns commented on developing the project with McElhenney. “Plus this sends a really strong message to young people: if you study, work hard and produce over a decade of top quality beloved network television programming, well then maybe you can get your own show on the internet too.”
