Saban Brands has recently announced plans to relaunch the hit 80s brand Popples, via a wide range of merchandising campaigns that include apparel, mobile apps, accessories, plush toys, and more. The first wave of merchandise is scheduled for fall 2013, with another wave being readied for Spring 2014 as new Popples characters are introduced via publishing, stationery, party goods, crafting, and more.
Popples is a bunch of nostalgic self-pocketing characters that were originally created as a toyline in the 80s, with a cartoon series eventually being made by DiC and LBS Communications. Saban has said that the modern take on the Popple products will feature several updates designed to make them more relevant while retaining a clear link to the originals.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the Popples franchise to a new generation while reacquainting it with those who grew up with, and adored, Popples in the ‘80s,” said Elie Dekel, president of Saban Brands. “With products, and eventually new characters, fans will find the adorable Popples more irresistible than ever.”
