UK studio SC FIlms International has recently announced that they have started production on a CG animated film inspired by Jules Vernes’ classic yarn “Around the World in 80 Days”. The project is scheduled to launch at the Cannes film market later this month.
The 3D animated film adaptation will take Jules Verne’s story and present it with a unique concept twist: the new adventure uses an underwater film and will feature characters from SC Films’ previous works The Reef: Shark Bait and The Reef 2: High Tide. The story follows a young fish as he goes on a guided tour of the world’s watery landmarks alongside a wise old turtle. Along the way, he makes new friends and learns how to trust his own instincts while navigating some of the most beautiful (and probably dangerous?) places in the world.
Simon Crowe of SC Films is producing with Dan Chuba and Mark Dippé of the Animation Picture Company (The Reef 2, Outback). Dippé is co-directing with Taedong Park, from a screenplay by Stephen Meier. Around the World in 80 Days is set for delivery in Q3 of 2018.
