The Snack World gets NFC figures, Nintendo Switch port
Takara Tomy is introducing a new line of figures for Level-5’s Snack World property in Japan. Called DataFigs, the four new toys allow players to gain new items in The Snack World video game through near field communication (NFC) technology. Fans can collect Chup, Mayone, Vincent, and Butako starting later this month.
NFC connectivity is a major component of The Snack World toyline. Real life collectable keychain weapons called Jaras and monster summons called Snacks are used in the game. Western audiences have already enjoyed similar toys to life experiences through things like Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Amiibo and LEGO Dimensions.
Additionally, the latest issue of CoroCoro Comic magazine has revealed that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The Snack World: Trejarers originally launched on Nintendo 3DS last August. A port for iOS and Android devices was originally supposed to be released alongside that version but has been delayed until sometime this year.
The Snack World franchise is scheduled to start rolling out internationally in 2018. Asmodee will distribute branded toys in Europe. In Japan, the franchise consists of an ongoing animated television series by OLM, a manga series from Shogakukan, trading cards, toys and other merchandise from Takara Tomy, and of course, the video games from Level-5.
