Sony Expands Distribution Deal with Genius Brands

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has recently expanded their home entertainment distribution agreement with Genius Brands International, which will now cover worldwide home entertainment marketing and distribution of the Kid Genius and Baby Genius labels from all of Genius Brands’ properties. Aside from the expanded global distribution agreement, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has also taken an equity stake in Genius Brands.

“The global distribution deal between Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Genius Brands provides a myriad of growth opportunities for both companies and coordinated global marketing for each of our brands as well as for our rapidly growing Kid Genius and Baby Genius channels” said Andy Heyward, Chairman and CEO of Genius Brands. “We look forward to working with SPHE to source, develop and produce valuable commercial children’s ‘content with a purpose’ for global audiences.”

Included in the new agreement is the all-new music and fashion-centric brand for tween girls, SpacePOP, which launched in Q4 2016 to massive positive reception. Also covered by the deal is the original Baby Genius series, which was relaunched as part of the brand’s 2016 expansion, Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaire’s Club, and Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders.
