Spirou Gets New International Broadcast Deals

France’s Mediatoon Distribution has recently announced a batch of new international broadcasting sales for its 2D animated series Little Spirou (78 x 7), which is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The milestone event will be celebrated via a host of special events and project launches.

The special events that will herald Spirou’s 75th anniversary consists of a series of events in France, Switzerland, and Belgium. The events include a Spirou Tour through 10 cities, exhibitions, and the launch of a new line of comic books. Aside from Little Spirou, the brand also has two other animated series, Spirou (52 x 26) and Spirou & Fantasio (39 x 26), sold in over 120 countries.

The Spirou show was presented at the MIPCOM last fall, and has since been picked up by Noga (Israel), TG4 (Ireland), TV Catalunya and TV Galicia (Spain) and TeleQuebec (French-speaking Canada). DVD publishing company Kaibou has also acquired the rights to the debut season for Canada, and will be using it to bolster their kids’ content catalogue. Other sales include M6, Teletoon (France), FTBF (Belfium), RTS (Switzerland) and Nickelodeon Asia.
