For a long time now, Nintendo seems to have given up on trying to compete with its console rivals in terms of hardware power, relying instead of novelty and creative approaches to console design. There’s no sign of said practice changing anytime soon, if the Nintendo Switch is any indication, but it looks like their experimentation is rubbing off on developers.
Case in point is the upcoming Switch version of Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, which according to a recent issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, will have a “Fire! Ha-DO-ken” mode. This mode is said to put players in the role of Ryu as he fights Shadaloo soldiers.
What’s noteworthy is Famitsu’s description of the mode as requiring the use of the JoyCons with both hands in order to make Ryu use his trade mark moves such as Hadoken, Shoryuken, and the hurricane kick, and that the mode itself will use first person perspective. Now, the first person view isn’t entirely new to the series but having it as a full on game mode is definitely a first and worth checking out. As for how enjoyable it is, we guess we’ll have to wait until the release in order to find out.
