Corus Entertainment’s Teletoon cable channel has launched D.N. Ace, the latest animated series from Nelvana. Originally announced in 2017, the 80 x 11-minute series began airing on the Canadian animation station on July 6th. New episodes air weekly at 10AM.
The series follows curious, adventure-loving, mischief-making, proudly nerdy, 12-year-old Ace Ripley who suddenly learns he holds an incredible ability to manipulate DNA by fusing the genes of a living thing with any other thing, to create something entirely new. The hero-in-the-making uses his newfound power to create ridiculous, amazing, and even terrifying mash-ed up creatures, and tries to save his town from total chaos while trying to have the time of his life.
Created by Matthew Wexler, the show stars Lyon Smith as Ace Ripley, with Samantha Weinstein voicing best bud Sloane and Juan Chioran as stressed out squirrel Mendel. Taylor Abrahamse is behind rival Huxley, who just so happens to be Sloane’s brother. Ace’s first mash-ed up creatures include sneaker x chameleon Heidi (Evany Rosen), utility knife x crab Crabby (Luke Gordon), hammer x boar Snouthammer (Athena Karkanis) and whoopee cushion x groundhog Digby (David Berni).
The series is an Ontario-British Columbia co-production, with Kelowna-based Yeti Farm assisting in animation. Japanese animation studio OLM and ad agency Dentsu consulted on the series, with the two agreeing to represent the show Japan.
