Sony Pictures Television’s U.K. channel Tiny Pop is getting some new shows from The Jim Henson Company. The early childhood-oriented free-to-air broadcaster will add Splash and Bubbles, Dot. and season two of Doozers to its lineup.
Splash and Bubbles is a CG-animated series from The Jim Henson Company and Herschend Studios. The 80 episode x 11 minute series follows a yellowback fusilier fish named Splash and his Mandarin dragonet pal Bubbles as they explore the reef and make new friends. The show debuted last year on PBS in the United States and has also been picked up by TVO and Knowledge in Canada.
Dot. is inspired by the book of the same name by Randi Zuckerberg. The series stars Dot, an energetic 8-year old, who uses her knowledge of technology solve problems in her neighborhood. The show is produced by The Jim Henson Company and the Industrial Brothers. In Canada, the 52 episode x 11 minute series premiered on the CBC in September 2016. In the United States, the series has aired on Sprout/Universal Kids and is available to stream on Hulu.
The Doozers is a CG-animated spinoff of Jim Henson’s beloved Fraggle Rock series. The first 52 episode x 11 minute season was a co-production between The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media. Initially debuting as a Hulu exclusive, the series has since aired on Sprout/Universal Kids in the United States and TVO as well as CBC in Canada. The first season aired in the United Kingdom on Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoonito. Hulu recently ordered the second season.
Tiny Pop’s new additions come just as SPT added Sarah Muller as VP of the U.K. children’s and youth portfolio. She’ll be in charging of programming and the development of Sony’s British children’s channels, including Pop, Pop Max, Tiny Pop and the video-on-demand service Pop Fun. Muller previously worked at Channel 5 as the head of children’s content.
