Toonami Releases New Lineup

Toonami Releases New Lineup

The Anime News Network has recently revealed the lineup that will herald the much-awaited return of Adult Swim’s Toonami block on Sunday, May 27. The newer additions include DeadMan Wonderland and Casshern Sins.

DeadMan Wonderland is the anime adaptation of Jinsei Kataoka and Kazuma Kondon’s manga, which aired between April and July of 2011 in Japan. The show is currently licensed for US Distribution by Funimation.

Casshern Sins, on the other hand, is the animated reboot of the classic anime Casshan, which is produced by Tatsunoko and animated by Madhouse. Casshern Sins originally aired in Japan in 2008-2009, and discards the continuity presented in the original Casshan series, in which Casshern was a cybernetic superhero fighting against the evil forces of Braiking Boss. In the new series, Casshern is now portrayed as a cyborg subordinate of the Braiking Boss, who was ordered to assassinate the savior of mankind.

Adult Swim’s entire anime schedule for early morning May 27 is as follows:

12:00 a.m. – Bleach
12:30 a.m. – Deadman Wonderland
1:00 a.m. – Casshern Sins
1:30 a.m. – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
2:00 a.m. – Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
2:30 a.m. – Cowboy Bebop

The shows are then repeated between 3 AM to 6 AM.

Some of the more popular titles, like Naruto and Dragonball Z will not be part of Toonami’s block (yet?) since the shows are either licensed by a competitor or priced above Toonami’s budget.
