Toonbarn Giveaway: Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro

Two iconic Studio Ghibli Films, Hayao Miyazaki’s “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Howl’s Moving Castle,” will be released by Disney on Blu-Ray this May, and Toonbarn will be giving away a copy of the Blu-Rays to two lucky readers. You can check out the giveaway mechanics at the bottom of this post, but if you’re not yet familiar with the two films in question (where have you been?), read on:

My Neighbor Totoro is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, so the new Blu-Ray release is very timely. The movie follows two siblings, Satsuki and Mei, as they try to adapt to life on the countryside after moving in. They discover that they have a new neighbor, a furry and friendly forest spirit named Totoro. Together with their new supernatural friend, the sisters go on a series of adventures, soaring through the landscape while riding on the winds from Totoro’s mighty roars.

The other release, Howl’s Moving Castle, is a fantasy tale based on the novel by Diana Wynne Jones. The tale follows a hardworking teenager named Sophie, who has been unnaturally aged by a hex. In order to reverse the curse, she must seek out the wizard Howl (voiced by Christian Bale) and his apprentice Markl. Together with Howl, Markl, and the ill-tempered ifrit Calcifer, Sophie will be meeting various creatures and seeing strange lands before she gets her youth back.

Both Howl’s Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro will be released in a Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack, which contains a truckload of bonus content, such as original Japanese storyboards, interview with Pixar animation studios director Pete Docter, and a special look at Hayao Miyazaki’s visit to Pixar’s studios.

The Blu-Ray/DVD Combo packs will retail for $39.99 each, but you, lucky Toonbarn Reader, can win a free copy of either one by doing the following:

The movie I prefer to see is My Neighbor Totoro because this movie is what made me fall in love with Hayao Miyazaki’s work. I love how this movie perfectly translates to the audience the sense of wonderment using the two young main characters. It’s remarkable fantasy and one of the best animations ever to come from japan.

I really enjoyed My Neighbor Totoro. It was one of the first Studio Ghibli movies I’ve seen and is still one of the best!

I prefer My Neighbor Totoro because it has so many moral value, it teaches us about friendship, love, family, courage and so many more.Besides,The story is so original and unpredictable + unforgettableble, The story gave me rollercoaster emotion (which can light up my mood like everytime and really moving). P.S. not to forget to mention about how amazing Hayao Miyazaki’s works. I LOVE IT ^^

I prefer Howl’s Moving Castle because, to be honest, this Hayao Miyazaki’s work made me love his movies. I love the story. The movie have learned me that I should believe in myself better (sometimes i have this problem with myself). It is such a magic movie. Not only because it is fantasy story but here is something what i can’t explain. Something what cause I come back to this movie and watch it as emotional as the first time.

I prefer My neighbor totoro. It’s the first movie that lead my love for anime and studio ghibli’s work. Also I love the story and the hidden morals in it.

I prefer Howl’s Moving Castle, as it’s my favorite of the currently available Ghibli Blu-ray titles. Crossing my fingers and waiting for Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

I would prefer My Neighbor Totoro because it is one of the first animes I’d seen. The story really drew me in and reminded me of me and my little sister. Therefore it’s nostalgic for a few reasons…

Howl’s Moving Castle for me, as while I love Totoro as well I have two different copies on DVD! Also I think Howl will benefit more from the improved Blu-ray resolution.

Oh man! It is so hard to choose! To be honest, I chose either. If I should win . . . surprise me. 😉

Did all of the requirements and I’d definitely love the Totoro movie. My kids would watch it all the time when they were children.

My son and I want to watch Howl’s moving castle. We just bought a new blu ray player this past monday and are loving it. Yes, my son got me into these movies and we have a blast watching them with a bowl of popcorn.
