ToonMarty gets UK television partner
Barcelona’s GoldBee has sold Sardine Productions’ Canadian animated series ToonMarty to ITV in the United Kingdom. The forty 11-minute episode series will air on the company’s children’s network, CITV.
Marty is the biggest thing to ever hit ToonViIle! Literally. When TOONMARTY, the huge fiberglass rooftop mascot of the TOONMART is zapped to life in a freak accident, his life changes forever. Now that Marty can move, and talk, and bend, and bounce, and scream, and stretch, and float and pretty much do everything he ever wanted to do, he never ever wants to stop. It’s a cartoon partyyyyy!!! TOONMARTY is a character-driven comedy jam-packed with cartoon physics and unabashed frenzy. Our lead is a wide-eyed enthusiastic free-spirit who believes everything is worth celebrating. And you know what? He has a darn good point!
Christophe Goldberger, GoldBee’s managing director, said: “We are happy to see ToonMarty expand its presence with such a great partner as CITV. The tone of this outstanding comedy resonates with kids globally, combining hilarious slapstick elements with witty dialogues.”
Darren Nartey, ITV’s programme acquisitions executive, said: “We are delighted to be the home of Toon Marty in the UK. It is a great comedy with fantastic animation, which will appeal to CITV’s core audience.”
The series debuted in Canada on both the English and French Teletoon channels back in May. It airs internationally on most Nickelodeon channels outside of North America. The series was funded by Corus Entertainment, with additional assistance from the Bell Fund, the Canadian Media Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, the Shaw Rocket Fund and the Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles.
