After successfully leading a team of high flying heroes in the box office hit The Avengers, Samuel L. Jackson is getting ready to lead another team of high flying heroes to the big screen, only this time, the heroes are not bipedal but fowls – in South Africa’s first 3D Animated Feature entitled Zambesia.
Produced by Triggerfish Animation studios, Zambesia follows the story of a young falcon named Kai who, against his father’s wishes, has left his home in order to join the prestigious Hurricane defense flyers that patrol the skies, keeping the city of birds called Zambezia safe. Kai’s father goes after him but is captured by a giant lizard named Budzo, who has conspired with the scavenging Marabous in order to take over Zambezia. Kai soon finds out about the capture of his father, and must contend with the fact that his father and the city of Zambezia cannot be saved merely with fast and fancy flying.
The film features a star studded voice cast that includes Jeremy Suarez as protagonist Kai, Samuel L. Jackson as Kai’s father, Tendai, Leonard Nimoy as Zambezia founder Sekhuru, and Abigail Breslin as Sekhuru’s successor Zoe. The film is scheduled for release this winter in Africa, and next year in other territories.
