Trolls 2 Scheduled for 2020
The 2016 CG animated musical comedy film Trolls (which was inspired by the titular toy franchise) did well in the box office, so it comes as no surprise that Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are going for a sequel. What is surprising is that the sequel’s date – April 10, 2020. It seems that Trolls’ performance has impressed the studios so much that they’re willing to commit to a follow-up so far in advance. A rare case, and one that we normally only see these days on mega popular comic book films.
The Trolls sequel will see lead stars Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake reprising their roles as Poppy and Branch. The original was directed by Walt Dohrm and Mike Mitchell, and debuted last November 2016. The film has since managed to earn $153.4 million gross at the domestic box office, plus $186 million overseas. The film followed the adventures of the happiest Troll ever born, Poppy, and the grumpy Branch as they try to save their friends from the Trolls’ natural enemy – the pessimistic Bergens.
Those who missed it the first time around can still catch Trolls through home video, as the film is currently available on disc and digital versions.
