Turner and Warner Bros. to Launch Boomerang VOD Service in the US
Time Warner’s Turner and Warner Bros. have recently announced a new premium video on demand service under the Boomerang name. The new service is slated for a spring launch, and will carry an extensive library of iconic cartoons, including titles from Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes, and MGM animation. The library will feature both original series and classic cartoons amounting to 5,000 titles.
The Boomerang SVOD service will also feature new original series from Warner Bros. Animation, namely Dorothy and the Wizard of OZ – described as an uplifting comedy fantasy series based on the L. Frank Baum classic. There is also Wacky Races, which is an updated version of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The service will also see brand new episodes of Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, and Tom & Jerry.
The Boomerang SVOD will be launching in the US for web, iOS and Android platforms. There will be no ads but subscription will cost $39.99 per year or $4.99 per month. There will also be a 7-day and 30-day trial for people on the fence. There are plans to expand to other platforms later, including Amazon, Roku, and Apple TV.
