TVNZ, which is New Zealand’s national broadcaster, has just ordered the first season of the new animated adventure comedy Matt Hatter Chronicles for its free commercial channel TV2. The HD CG animated series targets kids 5 to 10, and will premiere in 2013 as part of TV2’s Spring line up on 2kids weekend programming block. The show was also acquired by Australia’s Network Ten and is scheduled to air in its digital free to air channel, ELEVEN.
Currently, Matt Hatter Chronicles is airing on Nicktoons and ITV in the YK, where it manages to outperform the ITV simulcast slot average for the year by 35% for all viewers and 60% for boys. Other networks that acquired the show include Canada’s Teletoon, RTE Ireland, SABC South Africa and Al Jazeera’s Children’s Channel in the Middle East.
Nigel Stone, CEO at Platinum Films notes, “This latest deal highlights the ever-growing international appeal of Matt Hatter Chronicles and we are delighted to be partnering with TV2 in New Zealand. Matt Hatter Chronicles appeals to the hero in all of us and it is resonating with young fans around the world who are embracing the property’s TV and digital strengths.”
