Bleach has already entered its final story arc and mangaka Kubo Tite has already confirmed that he is moving on to a new series, but don’t say goodbye to the soul reapers yet, as Warner Bros. has recently purchased the live-action rights to the decade-old manga and has started on the adaptation much faster than what one would expect after what happened to the live action Akira.
Scriptwriting duties were given to Dan Mazeau, who is fresh off his work from Wrath of the Titans, while producing duties were given to Peter Segal of Get Smart (who will also direct, if things go according to plan).
Co-producers include Segal’s business partner Michael Ewing, actor Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura from Heroes), and VIZ Productions’ Jason Hoffs. Branon Colucco will be the executive producer.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Bleach and have great respect for its creator Kubo-sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga.” says Segal in a recent Variety interview.
