WATCH: GameFreak’s Ken Sugimori Draws Pulseman
Gamefreak, most notably their Pokemon series, is renowned for cute and quirky artwork. This is particularly impressive, given the limitations of the handheld devices that Gamefreak’s games usually appear on. And in case fans have already forgotten how talented the people behind Gamefreak are, a new video from the developer’s Youtube channel will remind you, hard.
The video in question features Ken Sugimori, who is partly responsible for the character designs and art direction of the Pokemon series and has worked in a variety of video game and art-related fields. The video shows Sugimori drawing the title character of a 1994 Sega Megadrive platformer, Pulseman. Sugimori directed the classic game, which went on to become a cult classic – decent in its own right, but forever living in the shadow of the Mega Man franchise.
