These past few days, the various animated shorts that are shortlisted for an Oscar nomination are being released online. The latest one is from Cartoon Saloon, the Louise Bagnall-directed 2D short titled “Late Afternoon.” The short is produced by Nuria Gonzalez Blanco, and has been shortlisted for a nomination for Best Animated Short Film in the 91st Oscars. It is produced under a budget of €46,000 provided by the Frameworks short film scheme funded by the Irish film board, Screen Ireland, and national broadcaster RTÉ.
The nine and a half minute short focuses on Emily, who finds herself lacking any connection to the world. She explores her memories and relives different moments from her life, looking into the past so that she may understand the present.
