If you are looking for a new CG short to give meaning to a few minutes of your life, the CG animated short Belly Flop should do the trick. The short comes from South Africa’s Triggerfish, and has won seven international awards after screening at over 60 festivals across the globe. Now, it is streaming for free on YouTube.
Directed by Jeremy Collins and Kelly Dillon, Belly Flop follows a fearless young girl named Penny. She is still learning to dive, and is determined to succeed even if a talented driver keeps stealing the spotlight. You can check out the short below:
“The character of Penny was inspired by a girl I au paired for when I was at university,” said Dillon. “I remember when she started taking swimming lessons, I admired her persistence in learning to dive properly, oblivious that she kept belly flopping. This short film has taken seven years, so being named Africa’s best animation really reinforces Belly Flop’s message that perseverance does pay off, eventually.”
