Zig and Zag Begins Production This Summer
A brand-spanking new cartoon from Ireland called Zig and Zag: The Animated Series is scheduled to start production this summer, with delivery to RTE and CBBC scheduled for next year. The finances for the 2D animated TV series are currently being finalized by Dublin-based Double Z Productions and Co. and animation house Flickerpix.
Zig and Zag: The Animated Series is based on the popular 1990s puppet duo that originally appeared on RTE’s Dempsey’s Den, before moving to The Big Breakfast on Channel 4. The new 26×11 2D series will follow the titular twin brothers as they decide to leave Earth and return to their homeplanet, Zog. Unfortunately, a disastrous space road trip stranded them in the midst of humdrum suburbia, where their insane inventions, death defying stunts, invisible cats, and robot supermodels wreak havoc upon unsuspecting residents.
The series will be penned by original creators Ciaran Morrison and Mick O’Hara, both of whom will also voice the leads. Ronan McCabe will produce on the Double Z side, while Flickerpix production duties will be handled by David Cumming.
