Zodiak Kids UK’s The Foundation has recently picked up the TV rights of Hollow Earth, which is a children’s fantasy adventure book written by John Barrowman (who played Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and Torchwood) and his sister Caroline Barrowman. The Foundation will be working with their company Barrowman Barker Productions in order to develop a children’s drama series based on the first in the trilogy of said adventure story.
Hollow Earth follows the story of 12 year old twins Matt and Emily Calder, who have the power to either bring art to life or enter the paintings at will. The twins are hunted by villains who wish to use their powers to enter the “Hollow Earth”, which is a place where all the feared demons, devils, and creatures of the dark lie trapped for eternity. The twins, along with their mother, flees with their mother to an island off the west coast of Scotland, where their grandfather is able to protect them using powers of his own.
“We are very excited about a co-production partnership with Barrowman Barker Productions,” said Vanessa Hill, Foundation’s joint managing director. “Hollow Earth promises to be an action packed children’s drama series.”
John and Carole Barrowman added, “We are so thrilled to have our TV rights in such good hands. We can’t wait to see all of Matt and Em’s wild adventures and all their art come to life for viewers.”
