Zoids Wild gets Japanese premiere window
At the Anime Japan convention, Takara Tomy revealed new information for their upcoming relaunch of the Zoids franchise, Zoids Wild. The OLM animated series received a new promotional video showcasing the cast of characters as well as a premiere window.
- Kensho Ono as Arashi, who pilots Wild Liger
- Takahiro Sakurai as Bacon, who pilots a currently unknown Zoid
- Mikako Komatsu as Penne, who pilots Scorpear
- Etsuko Kozakura as Onigiri, who pilots Gannontoise
- Subaru Kimura as Gyoza, who pilots a currently unknown Zoid
Unlike prior entries which took place on Planet Zi, Wild will take place on a fictionalized Earth in the … Wild continent in the year 20XX. The series will follow two factions on a desolate Earth in the year 20XX. Freedom, a young team tied together by their bonds with their Zoids, and Death Metal, an empire that controls Zoids by force, compete in fierce life-and-death battles for survival.
Zoids Wild will be directed by Norihiko Sudo, with scripts written by Mitsutaka Hirota. Yūki Matsuoka is on as sound director, while Noriyuki Asakura is composing the score.
The anime will air on MBS and TBS in Japan starting in July at 6:30 AM on Saturdays. A specific date wasn’t shared, though that timeslot is currently occupied on both channels by the latest season of The Seven Deadly Sins anime series. Assuming that runs for 26 episodes, Zoids Wild may premiere on July 7th, barring any pre-emptions.
As previously reported, Takara Tomy is supporting the relaunch in a massive way. In addition to the new model kits and TV anime, a manga series in CoroCoro Comic, a Nintendo Switch video game, a smartphone app, and loads of other tie-in merchandise. At the announcement of the revival, the company stated they intended to release the new take globally.
The Zoids Wild manga will premiere next month, with the first motorized model kits due out in June.
