Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls Tapped for Pokemon Movie

Thanks to the astonishing success of AR game Pokemon GO, Pokemon is more famous than ever, even after 20 years of world domination. Together with the pocket monster property’s forthcoming projects is its 1st live-action movie.

The movie is based on the Detective Pikachu game which was released in February in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS. It is being produced by Legendary Entertainment in partnership with The Pokemon Company. According to EW, the negotiations are in progress to sign writers Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch, creator of the famous animated series Gravity Falls.

In the game, Tim Goodman is followed by the players as he goes into the big city to look for his missing father. There, he runs into Detective Pikachu – everybody’s favorite electric mouse, with a Sherlock Holmes style deerstalker hat. The two are immediately caught up in a mission to catch a thief and return a stolen necklace. The game mixes point-and-click investigation with logic puzzles in order to solve the case.
