According to a recent Variety report, Warner Bros. is currently developing a sequel to Legendary Entertainment’s surprise live action/CG hybrid movie, Detective Pikachu. Variety notes that Oren Uziel is on board as screenplay writer. Fans will recognize Uziel for his recent work on the script for Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog. More astute movie buffs will know Uziel for Shimmer Lake, The Cloverfield Paradox, and 22 Jump Street as well.
The Detective Pikachu movie is notable for portraying the cute little electric rat, and for giving him the voice of Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. What’s impressive about the news of the sequel is that the film hasn’t even screened in the US yet. The film will release on our shores on May 10, 2019.
Detective Pikachu also stars Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) as Tim; Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird, TV’s Big Little Lies) as Lucy, a junior reporter following her first big story; and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, The Last Samurai) as Lt. Yoshida.
