Nintendo will be launching a new Japanese Pokedex App for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) on November 16, 2012. The news is certainly surprising, considering that Apple’s iOS devices are currently the biggest threat to Nintendo’s handheld market share, and the fact that Nintendo is known for rarely – if ever – allowing their profitable golden geese to lay eggs in a third party system.
The new iOS Pokedex app will use sleek 3D graphics similar to Pokedex 3D on the 3DS, and will retail for 170 yen or $2. But don’t think the cheap price is a godsend yet, as the $2 price is only for the base app, which contains all the Pokemon from the Unova region. The data for Pokemon coming from the Kanto Dex, Johto Dex, Hoenn Dex, and Sinnoh Dex will be worth 500 yen each, which means the total cost of a complete Pokedex is somewhere around 20 bucks.
