Sandshrew Makes an Appearance as Tottori Prefecture’s Mascot

For the second year, the bipedal mammalian Pokemon Sandshrew has been designated as the mascot of Tottori Prefecture. The fact that Sandshrew (especially in huge mascot form) is adorable is enough to warrant being chose, but there’s also another very good reason: Tottori prefecture is known as the only desert region in the main islands of Japan, making them as closely associated with sand and earth as Sandshrew.

To celebrate, Tottori Prefecture will run a “Sandshrew, COME!” festival until January 14, 2019. The event will be full of special products and activites related to the area and the Pokemon mascot, which includes a stamp rally, under which two stamps will earn you a Sandshrew-themed three-letter and envelope set, while a five-space stamp card can be filled out to earn a Sandshrew desk figure made out of – you guessed it – sand!
