The Pokemon Company and Bandai Namco Games have recently announced a collaborative effort that nobody expected to see outside of fanmade games: an arcade fighting game called Pokken Tournament, which is basically described as “Pokemon Meets Tekken.” (this is the “shocking announcement” that they’ve teased a couple of days ago)
You can check out the first official teaser video below, featuring Leucario and Machamp duking it out mano a mano:
The teaser is a little bit sparse on details but it gives you a good look at the combat. We’re hoping that the game isn’t limited to the fighting type breeds of Pokemon, and that the combat takes element affinity into account, which would make it the kind of game that Pokemon Stadium should have been from the very start.
Pokken Tournament is slated for a 2015 release in Japanese arcades. Let’s hope they bring this to consoles overseas (since arcades are pretty much dead in the U.S.)
