ToonBarn at SDCC: Day 2 Recap

Day 2 at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 was the busiest of the 4 days for ToonBarn Head Writer Marc Morrell. So, let’s show you why.

To see the rest of our Daily Recaps for SDCC, catch these stories:

TMNT Interview

The day started with an interview with 3 of the 4 Ninja Turtles from TMNT at the Nickelodeon Press Room in the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego. Rob Paulsen, who plays Donatello, Sean Astin, who plays Rafael, and Greg Cipes, who plays Michaelangelo, were all there answering questions about Nickelodeon’s highest-rated CGI show. These guys are at the top of their game in everything they do, and that’s what makes this cartoon on Nickelodeon fun to watch. This full interview will be available in a week or two on ToonBarn.

Teen Titans Go! Interviews

The cast and producers of Teen Titans Go! were interviewed prior to their panel, which we were told was full while we were waiting in line to get in, so we could not cover the panel. The interviews were with Scott Menville, who plays Robin, Khary Payton, who plays Cyborg, and Producers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. These are always fun interviews, because these people know how to have fun. You would have fun too if you had the number 1 rated cartoon for kids. When I interviewed Scott Menville, I gave him a picture I drew of his character, and he loved it so much, he wanted me to sign it for him. Totally cool! Again, these interviews will be available in a week or two on ToonBarn.

Robot Chicken Interviews and Panel

The Robot Chicken show on Adult swim will be debuting Season 8, starting in October. Season 7 Blu-Ray/DVD will be available very soon. Robot Chicken is also airing it’s 3rd installment of the DC Comics Crossover, entitled “Robot Chicken DC Comics Special III: Magical Friendship”, which centers around the bromance that has developed between Superman and Batman. Our interviews were with Kevin Shinick, Executive Producer of the DC Comics III Special, Tom Root, co-head writer, Matthew Senreich, Executive Producer, and Tom Sheppard, Director for Season 8. We also attended the Robot Chicken panel, which was hilarious! Breckin Meyer was in rare form, and the banter between him and Seth Green was priceless! You definitely don’t want to miss these interviews when they come out in a few weeks.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Interviews and World Premiere Panel

The day finished strong with interviews from the cast and crew of Justice League: Gods and Monsters. This was immediately followed by the World Premiere of the film, where after viewing the film, a panel with the cast and crew ensued. The people in the interviews were Bruce Timm, Executive Producer, Alan Burnett, writer/producer, Andrea Romano, voice director, C. Thomas Howell, who played Dr. Will Magnus, Paget Brewster, who played Lois Lane, and Tamara Taylor, who played Wonder Woman. A brilliant cast and crew who made a brilliant movie that changes the origins of the 3 main members of the Justice League, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and shows these characters in a very different light than most of us are used to seeing. These interviews are coming to you on Toonbarn over the next few weeks.

Marc Morrell

I am a Big Fan of all types of animation. Like a lot of things, the cream always rises to the top. My favorites have included Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, anything Pixar, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron Legendary Defender, and the DC/WB Animated Films. I have a lot of Old School favorites as well, such as Star Blazers, Voltron, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and Scooby Doo.
