Russian Channel Censors Itchy and Scratchy

Due to a new Russian law banning displays of violence, drinking, and smoking before 11:00 PM, Russian fans will no longer be able to see the Itchy & Scratchy segments on The Simpsons, as the Russian TV channel 2×2 will start censoring all of the hyper violent cat and mouse segments in order to comply with the new law.

“We will retouch in an ironic way all the programs where there are scenes that fall under the new law,” general director Lev Makarov told the press. “For example we will black-out the screen and write a jokey message in a rolling caption.”

The new anti violence law came into effect last July and is designed to “protect children from information causing harm to their health and development.”

Interestingly enough, another show that is known for its mature content, South Park, won’t be subject to the same censorship because it airs after 11 PM.
