Sony Pictures and Ubisoft Team Up for Smurfs 2 Game

In support of the upcoming release of Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s CG/live action hybrid family comedy The Smurfs 2, leading videogame developer Ubisoft has been commissioned to develop and publish a video game based on the movie.

The game will be developed with the help of WayForward and will be released as an action-adventure platforming game for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and Wii.U consoles. There will also be an interactive storytelling book and mini-game collection for the Nintendo DS. The scheduled date for the launch of all the console versions of the game is July, 2013, in line with the film’s July 31 release.

The Smurfs 2 videogame will provide Smurfs fans the chance to play as a Smurf, while immersing themselves in an interactive adventure throughout the movie’s enchanting environments, such as New York and Paris, and will also take gamers to game-exclusive worlds such as The Arctic Tundra, and the Lava Jungle.

“Aligning ourselves with an industry leader like Ubisoft is a perfect complement to our marketing efforts for the film,” said Mark Caplan, vice president, Sony Pictures Consumer Products. “The game will help bring audiences closer to the magical world of the Smurfs, allowing players to interact and control their own adventures.”

“By collaborating with Sony Pictures on the iconic Smurfs license again we are able to extend the experience from film to immersive gameplay,” said Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing, Ubisoft. “The family-friendly ‘The Smurfs 2’ video game will allow players of all ages to continue the fun and revel in new adventures.”
