Unlimited Smurfs Movie Moved to 2016


Despite originally being announced for a 2015 release, the Unlimited Smurfs Movie has been moved to an August 5, 2016 release date for the US and July 5, 2016 for overseas markets. The change of schedule was announced by director Kelly Asbury via his official production blog, smurfsproductionblog.tumblr.com.

It is worth noting that the release date is not the only thing that has changed from the original plans for the third installment in the Smurfs movie franchise. The film’s direction has also changed from a CG animation/live action hybrid like the first two films into a CG animated one, with Asbury claiming that they are reimagining the Smurf universe into a more “Peyo” look, referring to the original franchise.

Asbury also noted that Unlimited Smurfs Movie is neither a sequel nor a prequel, but a whole new Smurf adventure.
