Canada-based kids entertainment company DHX Media has recently inked an agreement that secures the rights to the entertainment division of Iconix Brand Group, which in turn gives them an 80% controlling interest in Peanuts (the remaining 20% remains with creator Charles Schulz’ estate) and 100% of Strawberry Shortcake. The transaction is priced at a whopping $345 million USD and is expected to close on or around June 30.
The new deal bolsters DHX Media’s already impressive library of content, adding more than 340 half hours more of proprietary content that can be used across the company’s wide range of territories and channels, as well as feed potential new productions across different platforms.
“Peanuts is one of the world’s greatest entertainment brands, with a tremendous global legacy of comics, animated content and consumer products reaching back almost 70 years.
