Sega announced that they will be releasing Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice for the Nintendo 3DS on September 27. The announcement came via the 25th anniversary panel which is dedicated to the hedgehog, held during the year’s SXSW Gaming event and livestreamed on Twitch.
The launch was originally set for fall 2015 but Sega delayed the game into 2016 last fall and did not give specifics about a new release window at the time.
Sonic Boom Fire and Ice is the 3DS follow-up to Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal from 2014 and just like its predecessor, is based on the cartoon. Development was handled by Sanzaru Games. The previous 3DS outing of Sonic Boom fared better compared to the budding franchise’s weakly received Wii U Entry.
