After thirteen long years and, admittedly, a dozen or more quality online games, Trey and Matt will try their hand once again at a South Park based console game! “South Park: The Game” will be a role-player for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and is expected to debut sometime in the second half of next year. Some fans (ok, very few) may remember the South Park game for N64 that came out in 1998. Apparently it did pretty badly in the eyes of critics and, more importantly, in the eyes of gamers. Lucky for us, it lead to a slew of great online games to hold us over until now.
Game Informer magazine is said to have more info, as well as an interview with Trey and Matt in their next issue.
What we know now is that you’ll play as a new kid in town attempting to fit in. You can fully customize your character, to make sure you fit in with the established core group, and can select from five classes: wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue and an undisclosed class made up by Cartman at the beginning of the game. The combat system wont be as much “World of Warcraft” as it will be like “Paper Mario”, with melee attacks and timing cues. For those with a gaming background, the game will run on the Dungeon Siege III engine, using the 2D style that South Park uses on Comedy Central.
The game is said to include a number of upgradeable weapons, that you can powerup with fire, electricity, poison, lasers, etc.
