Tonight, Cartoon Network begins the second installment in the epic four-part Umbara story arc, where it seems like the fate of the entire Republic army is at stake. As the clone troops, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and others make their way onto the shadowy planet of Umbara, it becomes clear that their military mission hasn’t gone as smoothly as they hoped. In fact, Obi-Wan and several other groups are having trouble just holding their own ground. Without mistake, the battalion force needs the leadership of the stern General Krell, for it is his attack on the airbase that could win or lose the day.
Walter Murch steps in to the director role for this episode, having already had much cinematic success in major action films over the past few decades, including work on Apocalypse Now and the English Patient. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s great pals with George Lucas, the genius behind the entire Star Wars Universe.
As Murch guides the latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The General, we start to see the true cost this never-ending war between good and the Dark Side is having on the people. Jedi Pong Krell is ruthless, but also holds the weight of the cause on his back, knowing he must make quick, and even rash, decisions in an effort to advance his goals and save the lives of Obi-Wan and his troops. I guess the extra set of arms he’s sprouted help carry that burden!
