Star Wars Rebels will be premiering Season 2 with a 1 hour movie, entitled “The Siege of Lothal”, airing tonight, June 20 at 9 PM on Disney XD. As you saw at the end of Season 1, Ahsoka Tano (fan favorite voiced by Ashley Eckstein) revealed herself to be Fulcrum, the rebel contact that Hera (voiced by Vanessa Marshall) has been using to determine what the crew of the Ghost’s next move should be. Now that Kanan (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.) and the rest of the crew know how big the Rebellion against the Empire is becoming, they are eager to continue finding kinks in the Empire’s armor.
That is, until Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones) appears to make it a very bad day for our rebel heroes and forces them to run for their lives. There is no secret that this is the Darth Vader that everyone has always wanted to see. What was Darth Vader like before Episode IV, at the height of his power, when the rebellion was just getting a foothold, and he was tasked with ending it swiftly and convincingly. Dave Filoni and the rest of the Star Wars Rebels cast and crew have not only met the challenge, but they are going to great lengths to surpass any expectations fans may have had about Darth Vader and this period in the Star Wars Timeline.
As we have seen when we made a visit to Star Wars Celebration VII in Anaheim last April, fans are gearing up and hoping for a major battle between Ahsoka Tano and her former Master, Anakin Skywalker, who became Darth Vader during Episode III, between Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Many questions come to mind when you think about such a contentious meeting of these two powerful characters. Will Ahsoka immediately feel her old master’s presence, and know that Vader is him? Will Vader sense Ahsoka’s presence, seek her out, and fulfill his destiny of wiping out all the Jedi? Since Ahsoka left the Jedi Order at the end of The Clone Wars, is she even considered a threat to the Empire (assuming they don’t know about her helping the rebels)? Will Ahsoka stay away from the action and the Ghost crew, for fear of ‘endangering the mission’?
Hopefully, these and other questions will be answered during Season 2, starting tonight with “The Siege of Lothal” on DisneyXD at 9 PM ET, and continuing this fall, when the rest of Season 2 airs (new episode dates have not been announced yet). As a bonus, watch this behind the scenes featurette on the return of Ahsoka:
We will be watching all season long, hanging on every scene, and loving every minute of Star Wars Rebels. Enjoy!
