Looking into the Generator Rex half of Heroes United

Looking into the Generator Rex half of Heroes United

As far as Cartoon Network goes, Ben 10 is king. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the original Ben 10 series, the in-between Ben 10: Alien Force, the current Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, live action movies, CG specials or upcoming toons; Ben Tennyson reigns supreme. But there’s an uprising and loyal army of fans behind Man of Action’s newest hero, Generator Rex, and they’re hoping that Rex gets the drop on Ben when the two meet up in Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. On November 25th, Cartoon Network plans to unveil just that, delivering the goods on the ultimate team up. Err, match up. Err… well, they’ll both be in the same special. So lets take a look at some of what makes Generator Rex so fun, and so awesome, as we see the hero in action.

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

A few months back, ToonBarn ran a story about the potential crossover of the Ben 10 universe with the newly created Generator Rex universe. Seeing as how both are iconic heroes on Cartoon Network, and both have ties to Man of Action Studios, it made perfect sense — at least for the April Fools joke that we ran it as, Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien: . A good chunk of our readers were fooled by the fake story, but a good number of others couldn’t wait for such a thing to actually happen. …and now, it appears it will. At Comic Con 2011, Cartoon Network announced a crossover special event that sounds exactly like the one we faked, but this time it’s for real! Ben 10 and Generator Rex will team up in a special one-shot called Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. Confusing Ben in Humungousaur form as an E.V.O., Generator Rex decides to take the fight to Ben – only to discover they’re on the same side. Further details on the special are scarce right now, but we’ll get you the latest right here soon – stay TOONed!!

Cartoon Network has some big ideas! So, let’s say you have two of the most popular action franchises of all time, what do you do? On the one hand, there’s Ben 10. He’s had an incredible string of success in the original series, the sequel series Ben 10: Alien Force, and now the third Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. On the other hand, there’s a new series from the same Man of Action creation team, Generator Rex, that has cultivated a whole new, large audience. Apparently, the CN thinks they’re both so successful, they’re going to create a new spin-off with the two concepts merged! Thus, we have the new series Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien. Set to debut April 1st of next year (April 1, 2012) the series will follow Rex’s adventure with an Omnitrix of his own. Will the alien transformation abilities clash with Rex’s own nanotech? Will Ben be a good instructor, as he guides Rex on his new quests? Will Kevin clash with Agent Six? We’ll have to wait to find out!

A few years ago, a series of massive explosions released millions of nanites into Earth’s atmosphere. I don’t remember seeing anything on the news, but that’s fine, maybe you do. Anyway, these nanites apparently infected every living thing on Earth, randomly activating inside their hosts into an Exponentially Variegated Organism, or E.V.O. At this point, Providence stepped in to battle Van Kleiss and the EVO threat, with powerful warriors like Agent Six and a teenager dubbed Generator Rex who has the abilities to control his nanites. So what comes next? Toys, of course! The popular Cartoon Network animated series will be a part of Mega Brands’ latest construction toy line in 2011. This will bring the Man of Action toon to toy stores this fall, courtesy of Cartoon Network Studios.

Gearing up for Generator Rex

One of the really cool things about animation is that there’s no limitation on “new”. Between theaters, television, and DVDs (or even streaming video!) there is always new toons ready to be seen. Take for example, Cartoon Network’s upcoming animated series Generator Rex. Initially teased early last year, Man of Action and Cartoon Network are now ready to bring Generator Rex to the public. The pair has formerly had major success with Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien Force, and with all the effort put behind this series, it’s a safe bet we’ll see the same.

Later this year, Cartoon Network plans to unveil a brand new animated series called Generator Rex. The story, an action-adventure, revolves around Rex, a typical 15 year old … that can grow machines out of his body! OK, so not so “typical”. Rex travels around the world, investigating his own mutations, as well as those he finds in others. I dunno about you, but I think “hand TVs” sound pretty cool! 🙂 The powers lead an organization called the Providence to align Rex with Bobo Haha and Agent Six to travel the world fighting mutated monsters. The series was announced on March 26th by Man of Action, the creators of the Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien Force series. You in?
