Disney Planning Sequel to Alice in Wonderland

Disney Planning Sequel to Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland managed to earn over $1 billion at the global box office back in 2010, so it’s not surprising that Disney is more than willing to give the go-ahead to the film’s sequel, even though the film was not well-received by the critics due to its fairly pedestrian storytelling and the subpar 3D (at a time when 3D was the being marketed as the next big thing).

Alice in Wonderland 60th Anniversary Edition DVD and Blu-Ray review

Alice in Wonderland 60th Anniversary Edition DVD and Blu-Ray review

Disney has a large stable of animated tales in it’s long history. There’s the Disney Princess flicks (Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Mulan), the Animal films (the Jungle Book, Tarzan, Lion King, 101 Dalmatians), and even a CG category (Toy Story, The Robinsons, UP). Then, there’s a film like Alice in Wonderland… which fits no category. In Disney’s original, animated retelling of the classic Lewis Carroll novel, The Mad Hatter has more resemblance to Winnie the Pooh’s Rabbit than Johnny Depp, and yet there’s all the magic and wonder captured some 60 years ago that Tim Burton revived in his new take. …right?

… leaders, and had been of late much accustomed to usurpation and conquest. Edwin and Morcar, the earls of Mercia and Northumbria, declared for him: and even Stigand… zzzZZZzzz …zzz… oh, wait, what? Sorry, I was just dozing off for a bit; daydreaming about this crazy, turned about world. There were smiling, disappearing cats, angry queens, characters changing size… hm. Sounds like a fun book. Maybe even a better movie! Alright, alright, so the whole thing already exists, can’t I have some credit…? No…? Well, can I at least announce that Disney will release Alice in Wonderland 60th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-ray & DVD in just a few days? Hm, I guess I just did. Fine, how’s that for a weird bit!!

Disney gets Kingdom Hearts Recoded in stores

After the events of Kingdom Hearts II, and the Battle with Xemnas, Sora, Riku and Kairi take some time to relax on Destiny Islands. Meanwhile, Jiminy Cricket spends his time chronicling the events from the first game when he notices a line he didn’t remember writing. It seems a number of things in Jiminy’s journal have the power to create themselves spontaneously, as the gang will soon learn, spiraling through virtual levels of locations they’ve already visited in earlier game titles. There’s Destiny Islands, Traverse Town, Alice’s Wonderland, Olympus Coliseum, Agrabah, and Hollow Bastion to name a few, in addition to Disney’s Castle. Along for the ride are King Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, the Heartless, Maleficent, Pete, and many other heroes and villains from Disney’s catalog. And now, the game can be yours, as Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded hits shelves in the US on January 11th; January 14th in the UK.

Tron: Legacy, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, and the Lion King on Disney's Blu-ray 3D

Big things are happening in Disneyland for 2011. Two of Mickey Mouse’s most popular films, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King are getting the Blu-ray and 3D treatment, completely remade for newer home video systems. In addition, two of the newest animated (and quasi-animated) adventures will be getting the same options with Tangled and Tron: Legacy. Apparently, we’re on a direct path to a world that is nothing but 3D – movies, video games, bubble gum… everything! In fact, even as I’m typing this and looking around the ToonBarn Studios, everything here is beginning to look 3D, as well… Anyway, check out the early press release to the goings-on at Disney!

It’s been 9 months now, and the baby is ready to come home. Er, we mean, it’s been a long while since the March 5th premiere of Alice in Wonderland premiered in theaters, and today we can finally bring the Disney film home on Blu-ray and DVD. The Tim Burton masterpiece earned more than a billion dollars world wide while in theaters – a feat only accomplished by a handful of other films. But now, you can own a copy all your own, watching Alice’s adventures down the rabbit hole again and again in the comfort of your own home. We saw it three times in theaters (each in 3D) so I guess that means we have a lot of catching up to do in the ToonBarn offices!!
