Ben 10 Omniverse: Rise of Heroes

UPDATE: the new series is here! Cartoon Network has launched Ben 10: Omniverse. Let us know what you thought of the premiere episode, “The More Things Change”

We’ve only just recently gotten word of Ben 10’s upcoming video game, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction, but the folks behind the series aren’t done yet! Today, we can announce that TurnOut Ventures and Typhoon Games Studio have joined together to launch Ben 10 Omniverse: Rise of Heroes, the first multiplayer online game about the world of Ben 10. Currently available in Australia and Hong Kong, the game is set in the time between the original Ben 10 and Ben 10: Alien Force – prior to the newest series, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. Gamers can become a Bellwood Elementary School student with the ability to transform into one of three different alien forms, thanks to the Omnitrix. Sounds like a fun school to attend!

NYCC Interview: Man of Action Studios’ Steven T. Seagle, Duncan Rouleau and Joe Kelly

ToonBarn's Marc Morrell Interviews Man of Action Studios at New York Comic Con 2012

Man of Action Studios is the bi-coastal production company responsible for such megahits as the Ben 10 empire and Generator Rex on Cartoon Network, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man for Disney XD, wildly successful video games, toy lines, comic books, graphic novels, stage productions, animation and a slew of upcoming feature films. They serve as front line creators, producers, writers and artists on many of their projects and are constantly creating more. A Man of Action is someone who gets things done. This perfectly describes each member of Man of Action Studios. Much like their super-powered protagonists existing across all platforms, Man of Action Studios is a creative collective that can generate and adapt ideas into the highest-rated television shows and best-selling merchandise in the US and around the world.

Who are the men behind Man of Action Studios? I am glad you asked. Man of Action Studios began in 2000 as a group of four friends from diverse backgrounds: Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly and Steven T. Seagle, all graphic novelists with a strong appreciation for structure and storytelling, who wanted to do something bigger.

Ben 10 Evolution

Ben 10 Evolution

Let’s just sum it up quickly: Ben 10 Week was awesome. All of the bonus specials, all of the episodes, the CG animated Destroy All Aliens, the sneak peek of Omniverse, etc. etc. Really, the only bad thing about the entire promotion was that… it ended! If only Cartoon Network could just let it live on forever! Or, ok, if we’re getting creative with our wishes here, how about just start beaming new episodes directly into our eye lids!! …No? Too Much? OK, fine. Still, with the two new pieces in place from this week, we have a new appreciation for the Ben 10 franchise through the years that we didn’t have prior to Ben 10 Week. Let’s take a look!

With Ben 10 Ultimate Alien and Generator Rex meeting for the very first time, the Man of Action made super heroes are bringing their A-Game to the crossover, teaming up and battling up to make sure audiences get their excitement to the max. We’ve already posted bits and pieces about how Ben Tennyson goes Humungousaur on Generator Rex. We’ve also had an indepth look at how Ben, Wrath, and Lodestar are all unknowns in the world of Generator Rex. But pictures can’t quite do it justice, so lets get to the footage!

Ben 10 goes Humungousaur in Heroes United

For weeks now, we’ve been anxiously looking forward to the first ever meeting of Cartoon Network superstars Ben Tennyson and Rex Salazar, aka Ben 10 and Generator Rex. As heroes in each of their respective shows, we could only imagine that they’d both meet up, shake hands, then chance on after some of their teamed villains – but that’s not exactly what the Man of Action icons have planned. …and now, we’re even more anxious for the November 25th special to premiere! Generator Rex could have an advantage, with a body full of nanites ready to form giant, pummeling hammers. But, thankfully for Ben, he didn’t leave his Ultrimatrix on his world, giving him the ability to shape shift into his Humungousaur form. Humungousaur versus Generator Rex? Sounds like a fight we’d like to get a preview of!

As far as Cartoon Network goes, Ben 10 is king. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the original Ben 10 series, the in-between Ben 10: Alien Force, the current Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, live action movies, CG specials or upcoming toons; Ben Tennyson reigns supreme. But there’s an uprising and loyal army of fans behind Man of Action’s newest hero, Generator Rex, and they’re hoping that Rex gets the drop on Ben when the two meet up in Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. On November 25th, Cartoon Network plans to unveil just that, delivering the goods on the ultimate team up. Err, match up. Err… well, they’ll both be in the same special. So lets take a look at some of what makes Generator Rex so fun, and so awesome, as we see the hero in action.

Ben Tennyson unknown in the world of Generator Rex

Ben Tennyson unknown in the world of Generator Rex

Our pal Ben Tennyson has been through a number of changes through out the years, even beyond the ability to shape shift into various alien forms. One of the most damaging, which occurred between the Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien era, was having his secret identity exposed to the world. Now, wherever he or one of his alien forms goes, everyone knows who is really beneath it all. But then, somehow, Ben shoots over to an incredibly similar, but different Earth. Here, in New York City, there appears to be an alien threat that Ben must deal with, along with Humungousaur, Lodestar, Diamondhead, Rath and others. The problem is, no one recognizes the alien forms. Worse yet, no one recognizes Ben. …and who the heck is this Generator Rex guy…?

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

A few months back, ToonBarn ran a story about the potential crossover of the Ben 10 universe with the newly created Generator Rex universe. Seeing as how both are iconic heroes on Cartoon Network, and both have ties to Man of Action Studios, it made perfect sense — at least for the April Fools joke that we ran it as, Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien: . A good chunk of our readers were fooled by the fake story, but a good number of others couldn’t wait for such a thing to actually happen. …and now, it appears it will. At Comic Con 2011, Cartoon Network announced a crossover special event that sounds exactly like the one we faked, but this time it’s for real! Ben 10 and Generator Rex will team up in a special one-shot called Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. Confusing Ben in Humungousaur form as an E.V.O., Generator Rex decides to take the fight to Ben – only to discover they’re on the same side. Further details on the special are scarce right now, but we’ll get you the latest right here soon – stay TOONed!!
